Diversity consciousness can be defined as the difference that exists between the people like the different countries they belong too . Within this diversity of national origins there is an even wider diversity of cultures , religions , languages , dialects , educational attainment skills , values , ages , races , genders and other differentiating variables (Digh Robinson , 2006 . Whereas diversity competencies to me can be defined as the ability (includes knowledge , skills and experience ) an individual has to handle the wants and needs of a

different group from mine in regard to their customs , traditions , languages , values and religion

Universities around the world especially in UK and US , the universities are trying to increase the diversity in students . Diversity is now being considered to be an important element in the research inquiry . If there is an increase in the diversity of students , the students will be able to handle diversity issues when they are working in an organization and it will be a unique and a different experience for them . Because if the universities have homogeneous students , then that university is limited the reason being that due to lack of diverse views and values homogenous cultures do provide a firmer basis for building a strong culture within a university . And to have students from all over the world , the teachers or the faculty members would be able to understand the experience of these students as well .
