Dissimilarity Index Exercise
Report on the Dissimilarity Index in Montreal , North Bay and Oshawa Calculation of the Dissimilarity Index The assignment demands calculation of the dissimilarity indexes for three chosen cities : the first with population over 1 million , the second with population between 100 ,000 to 1 million and the third with population with less than 100 ,000 . I , thus , chose Montreal , Quebec , with a Canada . The second city I chose was North Bay with a 32 ,195 and the third city was Oshawa with a The dissimilarity indexes for all the cities were calculated as given

in table 1
In table 1 the detailed calculation of the dissimilarity index is clustered . In to arrive at the dissimilarity index , first of all I calculated the percentage of male workers in each occupational category . This is done by first dividing the number of male workers in a category by the cities I have chosen- the answer multiplied by 100 to arrive at percentage values . As the second step , the percentage of female workers in each occupation is calculated using the same method previously used for the male workers . Thirdly , the absolute difference of the two percentages is calculated for each category , summed up and then multiplied by 0 .5 the resultant values were of the dissimilarity indexes . To allow it to assume index...
