In Europe , this era indicated the resurgence of humanism and the renewal of man 's scientific and cultural contributions to society . More so , an intense desire to pursue the arts and scholasticism was very much evident during this time . Renaissance artworks became infamous throughout the world because of their unique characteristics which have become the

basic foundation of modern expression in art ' The natural world , religious icons , landscapes historical incidents and ordinary daily scenes were the commonly used themes or subjects by artists in their artworks . Since the Catholic Church was the only patron of the arts at that time , most of the commissioned paintings or sculpture embraced religion as the primary themes (All-About-Renaissance-Faires .com , Humanism and Science and the Renaissance . Two artists who have emerged as masters in this field were Michelangelo Buonarotti and Leonardo Da Vinci . In Michelangelo 's Creation of Adam , one of the fresco paintings at the Sistine Chapel , it illustrated a religious symbolism of the relationship of man and God Also , Michelangelo depicted the human figures with immense accuracy using the technique of chiaroscuro which is the manipulation of light and shadow (Annenberg Media , 2008 , Renaissance . Meanwhile , an equally talented artist named Leonardo Da Vinci also produced an exquisite painting called the Last Supper during the Renaissance . This painting represented a significant evident in the history of Christianity which is the first celebration of the Holy Eucharist Moreover , the human figures looked like they possessed an earthy attribute that added to the realness of the painting . Other distinct features that Da Vinci used were perspective and the extensive array of colors which showcased and fortified the image and message of the painting ' In addition , all of the elements of the composition directed the viewer 's attention to the central point of the work Christ (LifeinItaly .com , 2008 , Leonardo 's Last Supper . To further learn about the splendor of the Renaissance , a variety of art pieces are displayed in numerous museums around the world such as the Mona Lisa by Da Vinci which is exhibited at the Louvre Museum in Paris , France and a sculpture of Michelangelo , David , is shown at the Academy Gallery in Florence , Italy
