Reinforcement is a psychological concept that is commonly based on the idea that the consequences of any action provided will motivate or influence a certain behavior to occur in future . By providing an incentive for any given kind of behavior , is reinforcement that either that behavior is desired or not and thus giving a clear teaching in regard to the occurred behavior . In reinforcement , it may either be negative or positive

Types of reinforcement

According to Skinner B , Operant Conditioning is the term he uses to describe the effects of any given consequences of a given behavior on its future occurrence . There are four main types of operant conditioning namely , negative reinforcement , positive reinforcement , extinction and punishments . In both cases , they are either to strengthen the behavior or weaken . In positive and negative reinforcement strengthen the behavior while punishment and extinction weakens the behavior

In a positive reinforcement , a certain behavior is strengthened so as to keep on occurring , example , a child may cry when he is hungry and is given food , he cries again and is given food , his behavior of crying is strengthened by the consequence of getting food .
