8. Discuss the significance of the effective writing characteristic--coherence, explaining why it is referred to as the `mortar` of a paragraph. Also describe the two writing tools that can be used to assure coherence exists in the paragraph.
Effective Writing Characteristic Coherence is the logical sequence of ideas in a sentence , or in a paragraph or in the whole article : coherence within a sentence corresponds to micro-level while coherence within paragraphs corresponds to macro-level . In effective writing , one should express the ideas to its readers clearly by carefully designating the parts of a sentence to their proper location , or each paragraph to their proper in the whole article . This means that the writer should know what he wants to write /express Remember that the writer is the owner of

the ideas , and if he wants his idea to transmit to his readers the same manner of his understanding of each idea expressed in the article then he must effectively correlate each single word written in his article . Each word in a sentence must able to show how each creates the larger focus of the article . If this happens , then the writer writes effectively
Mistakes in writing commonly fall within expressing thoughts /ideas and organizing them . So to eliminate these mistakes and assure the presence of coherence , the writer can make use of an outline . An outline helps in the organization of ideas on the macro-level and also let the writer know if the parts are connected or not in the larger focus . It is important to pay attention on creating a paragraph on the outline that will lead to the greater focus . In the same manner , the writer must also create a link on the different points of arguments
Brainstorming is another useful and popular writing tool in assuring the coherence of the paragraphs . In this process , the writer is creating a new way to look at things and allows him to explore the logical sequence between and among ideas . This type of tool is most appreciated by visual thinkers . The mechanics of this tool is typically writing the idea and locating it at the center of the and then write as many words that come out and that can be linked to the idea . The writer can use lines to connect the word /s to the idea or the word /s to word /s . Through visualization , the writer can have a good grasp on how the words could possibly be linked to one another and to the idea
