Paper Topic:

`Discuss the most significant issue affecting the future of health delivery in the country you intend to practice medicine` (Canada)

Canada 's healthcare system is largely publicly funded . With rising costs , it might soon become unsustainable

The Canadian Alliance of Physiotherapy Regulators reports that in 1999 billion , most of it is funded publicly . According to the report Canada 's population is also changing : there are fewer births , and the population is aging . Canadians are also expected to live longer by an average of three years (Canadian Alliance of Physiotherapy Regulators 2000

The aging population will have effects on the health care system . The National Research Council Canada writes that aside from

rising health-care costs , Canada will soon spend more for care for people with age-related degenerative illnesses . The Council also relates that almost half of those aged 65 and above (National Research Council Canada , 2005 . It is a view shared by physician leaders , the business community , health policy analysts , news columnists (Dhalla , 2007 . Although not everyone holds this view , like Roy Romanov who writes that the system as sustainable as "we want it to be (Romanov , 2002

It is important to me because Canada needs to assure its aging population that it will have access to quality healthcare when and where they need it . It is their legitimate right . It 's an issue that would affect the majority of Canada 's rapidly aging population . Debates on whether the government will have enough money in the long term should focus and consider that if they 're right about the system 's sustainability , it 's hurrah for everybody . If they are wrong , however the delivery of much-needed healthcare services on a timely basis will be affected . Situations wherein people in place like the remote areas of Canada would have to go to other places just to get service , or patients on a waiting list , and could wait for months before they could avail themselves of a much-needed procedure , are simply unacceptable
