Imperialism is an act or policy by which one country controls another country , usually through military means . During the period of 1877 to 1900 , the United States focuses on imperialistic actions against other countries particularly the Pacific and South Pacific countries

Two of the significant events that showed how the United States has been able to acquire the Pacific and South Pacific islands are : the first is the Treaty of Paris that was signed in October , 1898 this allowed

The second event is The Boxer Rebellion , happened in 1895 , wherein the United States defeated the Boxers (whose members are martial arts experts , by sending troops composed of soldiers and sailors from eight allied countries . As a settlement , the United States signed and expanded the Open Door ' policy which allowed foreign access to China 's market .
