In lay person 's world , this means that one can manufacture products from second hand instead of wood pulp . It could also mean that new metal products like car parts may come from tin cans , or that new aluminum cans can spring from recycled aluminum ones

. In other words , recycling discourages the throwing away from anything that might still be found useful or that may serve other purposes

Recycling is the reprocessing of materials into new products . Recycling prevents useful material resources being wasted , reduces the consumption of raw materials and reduces energy usage , and hence greenhouse gas emissions , compared to virgin production . Recycling is a key concept of modern waste management and is the third component of the waste hierarchy

Recyclable materials , otherwise known as recyclates ' may stem from a wide range of sources . These sources specifically include households and industries . Recyclable materials may include aluminum , glass iron , plastics , asphalt , and textiles . Some biodegradable waste -- such as food or garden waste -- is also recyclable . This can only be recycled , however , with the aid of microorganisms through composting

Today , what recycling advocates teach is for people to master the art of segregating trash into several categories , such as biodegradable non-biodegradable , newss and other products , PET bottles , etc (Vining and Ebreo1990 . This makes recycling easier to do . Moreover , with recycling , more jobs are created , thus contributing a significant portion of the national economy

Recycling also keeps still useful material resources from being wasted Consequently , this reduces the consumption of raw materials and can therefore help reduce natural resource usage . It thus helps reduce greenhouse gas emissions
