The League of the Nation : Successes and Failures

The League of the Nation spurred after the World War One . It is in response of the Treaty of Versailles during 1919 until 1920 .1 After America has entered World War One , the country 's President , Woodbrow Wilson was shocked by the slaughters brought by the assumed civilized part of the world . In the aim of preventing another war from happening he personally represented the United States in the Versailles Peace

br Conference .2 The goal of the league includes war prevention through collective security , disarmament , negotiation between countries in to settle disputes , diplomacy and to improve the overall global welfare .3

Many assumed that the league would have brought forth stability and security to the world . Although , generally , the league is considered as a failure , in some aspects it has proved its worth . It has settled the dispute between Aland Islands and Swedish Finish in 1920 to 1920 shortly after it has been established .4 It also guaranteed the security of Albania in 1921 and it has saved Austria from economic disaster Furthermore , it settled the division of Upper Silesia in ______________________________

1922 and it also helped in the prevention of the war in the Balkans in 1925 .5 In addition , the League of the Nations , has been considerate to refugees as it extended considerable assistance on them . As for opium trafficking and white slavery , they also helped to suppress these activities . The league was also the pioneer of health surveys financial aids to disadvantaged states and lastly , it broadened international cooperation in labor relations . Another important contribution of the League was the expulsion of USSR attack to Finland that came in sometime in December 1939 .6

Though , it has been able to execute its power at the onset of its establishment , it did not able to sustain its ability and by the middle of 1930s its functions became irrelevant . It has not been successful in strengthening its political influence . This was first noticed in the Vilnius disputes wherein Poland refused to follow the League decision thus in Italy 's occupation of Kerkira and the French occupation of the Ruhr in 1923 , the League held out of power .7 There has been also a failure in acting over the Japanese invasion of Manchuria during 1931 .8 This became very detrimental for the League 's image because the Japan withdrew their League
