Discipline and Punish
JOURNAL ENTRY FOR `DISCIPLINE AND PUNISH I have been wondering what the target of discipline and punishment really is . When I read Foucault 's Discipline and Punish ' I personally felt that for many years in the past , humans have been quite obsessed with trying to discipline and punish the intangible aspect of man Throughout the reading I felt that there was a misdirected attempt to correctly address the flaws of man by directly disciplining or punishing the body which is the outward or the material reflection of a more internal nature

that was supposed to be the object of such punishment and discipline . Were the elaborate methods of punishment or the almost acidic procedures of discipline successfully able to address that which these operations were intended to address ? I believe otherwise , because all these did was to make man entertain a more intimate connection with a higher authority of accountability . Physical methods of punishment and discipline work successfully to dislodge the human consciousness from the physical plain and bring it into direct contact with a higher power , but this is not the objective of the one exercising disciplinary procedures or the one delivering punishment . Obviously , from the readings , the objective of discipline is to modify man 's consciousness on the physical plain to indirectly affect the extra-physical and that of punishment is to inflict harm on the physical material of the human body for the purpose of eliciting some sort of extra-physical response The target is misdirected in this case...
