is affectionately known , is becoming one of the most rapidly expanding tourism destinations in the world . The city is the fastest growing city in Malaysia , both in terms of population and the economy and has recently become known as one of the premier international shopping destinations with the retail industry making up 20 .8 of all tourism receipts of 2006 (www .tourismmalaysia .gov .my . The government of Malaysia has also made a concerted effort lately to increase tourism with its Malaysia truly Asia ' campaign that has been running since 2007 to encourage tourism in Malaysia and to market Malaysia as a destination of excellence and to make the tourism industry a major contributor to the socio-economic development of the nation (www .tourismmalaysia .gov .my ' Despite the rapid economic expansion , Kuala Lumpur is still a surprisingly green city filled with parks and gardens and forests reserves as Malaysians feel the need to escape the heat and cool off in the shade . With its year-round equatorial climate and high levels of rainfall during the monsoon , Kuala Lumpur is hot and humid throughout the year , and as most of the attractions are indoors and air-conditioned , tourism patterns are not affected by changes in the seasons
