Design
DESIGN 2007 Robert Frost ' design is about design and . It talks about moths and spiders and their design . However , it is not simple . The poem talks about something more profound . It talks about something that puzzled scholars and people since a thousand years ago . It talks about the design of the universe . This design does not only refer to the appearance of things , but design in its wider sense . It talks about how things work . As the spider eats the moth , there are also natural laws that have to be followed

in the world
The poem does not explain the existence of a design . What it attempts is to question its existence . Therefore , What had that flower to do with HYPERLINK "http /www .wellesley .edu /Activities /homepage /web /Species /phealall .html being white , The HYPERLINK "http /www .intertrend .com /tips .htm wayside blue and innocent heal-all ? What brought the HYPERLINK "http /www .utexas .edu /depts /tnhc .www /biospeleology /neolep .jpg kindred spider to that height , Then steered the white moth thither in the night ' In fact , through these phrases , Frost even questioned the existence of a designer . What had that flower to do with being white ' He asks this knowing that it might not be the flower that chose to be white , but another being higher than the flower
The interesting thing is that Frost analyzed the existence of a design using small images . He wonders [i]f design govern in a thing so small ' Most people will attempt to prove the existence of a design by citing the whole nature in general . They will describe how the mountains are placed where they are , how there are different animals in the ecosystem , and how there are four seasons is some parts of the world However , Frost focused on smaller things like the spider , moth and the white heal-all . However , on second thought , they may not be little things because they describe life and the of life . Moreover , they describe death
The poem uses several literary devices to make it more effective . Among these are irony , imagery and ambiguity . The most observable irony in the poem is in the beginning of the poem . I found a dimpled spider , fat and white , On a HYPERLINK "http /www .boldweb .com /greenweb /H011 .htm white heal-all , holding up a HYPERLINK "http /www .colostate .edu /Depts /CoopExt /LARIMER /millers .htm " moth Like a white piece of rigid satin cloth - HYPERLINK "http /www .lib .virginia .edu /exhibits /frost /family /images /family2 .gif Assorted characters of death and HYPERLINK "http /www .plantpath .wisc .edu /PDDCEducation /MasterGardener /General /Slid e25 .htm " blight ' The irony is that while the scene describes death and blight , the use of color symbolizes something opposite . White often symbolizes purity and brightness . White may also be said to be a symbolism of death because some cultures wear white when there is death but the more common association of the color white is with things that do not involve death and other tragedies
