Item 3 Explanation

A person 's actions and behavior is always governed by some personal desire or need that

has to be fulfilled . A person finds employment and work because it is what society expects us to do , but to choose what profession to take and to practice or even what company to work for is decided on the different job needs that we have . In to understand these needs , we can make use of the different theories of motivation . In this case , the need for achievement can be explained by McClelland 's need theory , wherein he said that a person who is an achiever seeks jobs that would allow him /her to accomplish something and be recognized for doing such . Now the need for recognition is also a different need according to external /intrinsic motivation theory , a person who has a strong need for recognition is externally motivated , that is he /she work or carry out tasks because of the rewards that will be given . On the other hand , the need for belongingness and personal growth are two of the needs identified by Maslow in his hierarchy of needs . According to this theory , people are motivated to do something to satisfy this needs and a person works because he /she wants to feel to be a part of a community or a group , this satisfies our inherent need for human contact while the need for personal growth is the highest need that a person strives for and that every person who works ascribes to this need as a form of self-actualization . The need for job security can be explained by the expectancy theory that is we work because we expect something in return , if the expected return is something that we value then we continue to be motivated to work . In this fast paced world and changing workplace , job security is valued . If the worker is assured that he will have his /her job for the next 5 years or so , then he /she would likely care for his /her job and would want to grow in it , but if otherwise then the worker won 't be giving much to the job
