every career stage (Sloan Work and Family Research Network , 2003 . During young adulthood , the most significant task is establishment . Most young adults experience a series of jobs and gender differences may become prevalent

The establishment , the maintenance and the disengagementearly career mid career and late career phases have several similarities . Persons falling into each of these groups may have similar insecurities - a person establishing him or herself (early career ) may fear that potential employers do not think he or she has enough experience . An older person may be perceived as being too old . Each has their future to think of and may need to build , or rebuild security . Each may feel that they have a lot to give the working world in their own particular way . All are encountering the concept of career adjustment as well as issues of stability

Conclusion

By the above we can see that there are five distinct phases making up career development , and that there are a number of similarities between the third , fourth and fifth phases , even though members of the one group are embarking upon their careers and members of the other are nearing the end of their careers
