In reference to United States history , it is recorded that before the European immigrants settled in America , they found that the Natives Indians were the already living there . When the European came to explore the continent , it is estimated that there were more than ten million Natives who lived in Mexico and had been doing so for quite a long time (Harris , 1973 , The indigenous people were perceived in many different ways by the new

inhabitants . Native Americans were depicted in a stereotypic fashion however most of these perceptions are negative Native Americans are seen as ignorant and savage . This is because of their culture and life style which primarily involved hunting sacrificing . The fact that their dress code was made of skins and leather (Harris , 1973 ) also contributed to them getting this kind of perception . This group of people is seen to be at the blink of extension . According to Deloria (1970 , the stereotypes of Native Americans are also found in the curriculum materials where the group was seen as a barrier and the assumption is that they do not play any major role in shaping the future of America yet they benefit from the basic infrastructure and all the benefits that come with good governance .
