Database Applications
Running head : Database Applications Database Applications Introduction The database applications that are used in my organization are MySQL MSSQL server and IBM DB2 MySQL is used in combination with the web pages PHP that are used for the company 's website to store various company information , case studies , organizational happenings and raw data regarding its performance MSSQL server is used for storing the project information , their related data , resource usage and various metrics . It is efficiently used for maintaining the client interactions and data about the external projects that

have been executed for the company
IBM DB2 is used for internal purpose data storage only . It is precisely used for storing the employee details , their salary structures and breakup , their leave details and personal and professional details for organizational use
MySQL
MySQL is used extensively used in the company website for storage of information and provides an array of features that highlight the crucial issues
Provides efficient support for cross-platform
Provides efficient support for updatable views and strict mode
The facility of independent storage engines
Support for SSL
Full text indexing and searching
Provides support for pluggable storage engine API
Event scheduling
XML functions and row based replication
The functions that are quite unique to MySQL that is distinguishable over other RDBMS software 's are as follows
Provides multiple storage engines , providing support for making a decision to select the most suitable one for each table in the application , it also facilitates dynamic loading at runtime
Allow native storage engines (MyISAM , Falcon , Merge , Federated , Archive CSV , Blackhole , Cluster , BDB
Partner-developed storage engines (InnoDB , solidDB , NitroEDB BrightHouse (Linux , 2008
Also facilitates community-developed storage engines (memcached , httpd PBXT
Custom storage engines
Provides commit grouping , gathering multiple transactions from multiple connections together to increase the number of commits per second
MSSQL server
This database variant serves a set of standards that is required to launch client database requirements . The features of the database are as follows
Efficient buffer management to cache pages in memory so that more amounts the pages are cached the better the system operates
The transaction management is quite efficient in the manner that if a transaction is not able to complete it is roll backed so that changes can be reversed . In that manner data integrity is maintained
The concurrency control is quite effective and it ensures data integrity
It facilitates replication which ensures that proper synchronization is done for the information in the databases
It also facilities merge and snapshot replication
The OLAP provides analysis services for the data objects
The reporting services and notification services serve as a great function to the database functionality
IBM DB2
The management of the internal human resource is done through it . The following list summarizes the new features
Native SQL procedural language
Binary deploy
Package variation for SQL procedures
New data types (DECFLOAT and VARBINARY
XML support : XML indexes for tables , sample XML generation , annotated XML schemas , XML Schema Repository
End-to-end debugging of Windows applications in C and Visual Basic that...
