Data Storage
Data Storage The revolution of technology has brought so many advances in terms of computer power . Today , data storage is considered very important more than ever due to the increasing capacity demands of electronic information . For a computer system , there are several types of storage devices being used today . Generally , data storage devices are divided into three categories the portable , semi-portable and inseparable types (Wikipedia , 2008 . Some of the common examples for the portable category are cd-roms , flash disks and diskettes . The semi-portable hosts the hard drives while the inseparable type 's

famous example is the RAM module
Backing up provides a form of security for the data . Apparently computer electronics were fabricated in the most efficient ways However , there are instances in which stored data may be corrupted or even lost . Backing up these data will enable the user to retrieve them even during system crashes or power loss
There are three major techniques for backing up data , first is the method using servers . The main advantage is that a networked set of computers can easily provide a copy of mirror data to a central database . However , it is also possible that backed-up data be lost during a virus attack within the Local Area Network which multiplies the risk . Another back up method is through workstations . Basically , it has the same principle as that of a server . The only difference is that it can store data within the network to a remote network drive and this is done as a default procedure . The main disadvantage is that once the remote drive experiences problems , data cannot be retrieved from the mirror terminals within the system . Lastly , a laptop can be used to back up data . The main benefit is in terms of cost . One can purchase an affordable laptop to do frequent backing-up of data from the desktop However , laptop drives have minimal limited storage capacities
