Many books defined communication as a process of exchanging of information through several means such as speaking , singing , writing and other forms of verbal and nonverbal means . Communication is the sharing of ideas , opinions and feeling between two or more people . It is also a process wherein we assign and give meanings to things in to make a clear and shared understanding of it . Without communication , cooperation and coordination will not be necessary . Hence , communication plays an important role in

human groups and organizations . In a basketball team a team which lacks communication is most likely to lose than a team who communicate with each other . A research team , for instance , which is composed of persons from different fields , arrived at a good research through effective sharing of ideas and opinions

People must talk and communicate . Without communication , societies could not attain levels of civilization , communities could not organize into living and working groups , mark and ritualize practices and traditions debate and decide difficult issues and transforms groups , communities and societies for their good

Communicating leads to sharing sharing leads to bonding and bonding leads to uniting . Thus , communication is the root of all the organizations , team and groups in the world . Even the smallest group has been created through communication

It is used for self-definition . People communicate in to define themselves or reaffirm their common identity , indicate what they stand for , or what it means to have affinity to a group or organization

Communication is responsible for the dissemination of ideas and information . Group members became ware of rules , policies , plans programs and other issues of common concern through discussion , sharing of thought and through proper dispersion of information among them

Communication is also used to debate questions of fact , value , and policy in groups or communities . Values have to be clarified by member of societies or groups in to ensure the common good . Policy has to be arrived at through a democratic consensus before any rational action .Other reasons why communication is important in human groups include the following communication breaks barriers between two or more person hence leading to harmonious relationships , communication creates bonding in groups and affirms the human need to belong , communication facilitates cooperative action toward goal attainment , communication informs and enlightens people for knowledge 's sake and informed judgment , communication leads to enduring friendships and intimacy between individuals and among groups and lastly communication opens avenues or place for growth of the individual and society

For instance in the business organization , the manager must communicate the plans , rules , policies , operations to his subordinates in to execute and materialized it and eventually lead to the attainment of the over-all goals and objectives . Human relations would not exist without communication . Thus , the company manager can not direct his employees and can not implement policies if communication is not present .
