Literature review

Although relevant , the literature review in this article is quite shallow . The literature on the legalization of euthanasia is accurate as it is also acknowledged that euthanasia was legalized in Belgium in 2002 . The observation that the Belgian euthanasia debate started in 1999 seems to contradict with Cohen-Almagor (2009 ) who traces the debate back into the 1980s when the Belgian Association for the Right to Die with Dignity was established . Cohen-Almagor (2009 ) mentions that the debate became a media , parliamentary as well as a scholarly debate since 1995 thus accuracy of this article as regards to the debate is questionable There seems to be a contradiction in the way the Belgian euthanasia law requires prior to euthanasia and the highlight that `palliative filter is not included in the law . The `palliative filter (not included in the Belgian euthanasia law ) would require that a nursing team be consulted prior to euthanasia . On the other hand , Gielen et al (2009 indicate that the Belgian euthanasia law requires that an independent physician be consulted prior to be euthanasia . Whereas a nursing team is different from a physician , the understanding of the patient 's condition in both healthcare professionals is not very different .
