Manali is one of the hottest tourists destination in India especially after Kashmir lost its attraction due to terrorist problems . Although this has lead to the development and urbanization of the area , there were other serious consequences of these developments which were improperly planned and implemented and therefore unsustainable . This intends to analyze the consequences of Manali 's tourism development and also includes a discussion on product innovation

Manali is situated

in the Kulu district of Himachal Pradesh and its elevation is about 2000 m . The forests , rivers , meadows , natural springs and the extremely calm atmosphere and fresh air have attracted tourists from 1930 's onwards . Agriculture , horticulture and recreation were the livelihood means of the rural people of the area . The potential of the area to attract more and more tourists was identified and publicized by the prime minister in 1950 's and since then a dramatic development took place in the area (Singh , 2008

The government initiated road , rail and air traffic developments , which increased access to the area . By 1990 's as a result of the urbanization the agriculture and horticulture of the area reduced to a negligible proportion .
