These wonders did not forbid the artistic eye of its people to create a number of astonishing artworks that reflected the history of the Filipinos during the Spanish regime This year , Galerie Joaquin Main celebrates their fifth anniversary with an exhibit

showcasing the country 's setting during the late part of the Spanish colonial era and early American colonial period entitled Old Manila ' by Dominic Rubio . The show presenting thirty seven oil-on-canvas works , opened last November 13 and will run until November 26 of this year Rubio 's aim was to capture the melancholy and romance of these periods while offering them a contemporary feeling and magical appeal
Dominic Rubio , who turns thirty seven this year , was featured in Balik Alaala ' the inaugural exhibit when Galerie Joaquin Main opened its doors in 2003 . It was also the artist 's work , Early Times ' that became the exhibit when Galerie Joaquin Singapore opened at The Regent of Singapore
In the exhibit , Old Manila ' the community found great pleasure in supporting performing arts such as the theater , the zarzuela or dance-plays , the comedia and going to presentations . Other times , they would be visiting parks and gardens , in particular the Luneta . Or they would promenade the Binondo Arcade , or the sprawling grounds near University of Sto Tomas called Plaza Sto Tomas

The paintings , Pamilyang Pilipino ' Malacasang by the River ' and Ginang ' displayed how Filipino families and romantic couples , wearing their fine clothing , took pleasure in strolling the paseo or bridge and the town plaza . Tatlong Sabungero ' presented one of favorite pastimes among gentlemen which was sabong ' or cockfighting
