INTRODUCTION

Election fever is heating up among the candidates for the United States presidency as the year 2008 approaches . The 2008 US presidential election will be the 55th consecutive quadrennial election for President and Vice President . The elections are scheduled to be held on November 4 , 2008 . Likewise , elections for all 435 members of the US House of Representative and 34 members of the US Senate will take place on the same date

Whoever receives a majority of votes in

the Electoral College in the U .S . presidential election (270 votes are needed for a majority ) will be the 44th President of the United States , and whichever vice presidential candidate receives a majority of votes will be the 47th Vice President of the United States ( HYPERLINK "http /en .wikipedia .org /wiki /United_States_presidential_election ,_2008 http /en .wikipedia .org /wiki /United_States_presidential_election ,_2008 , 2007 . Accordingly , if no presidential candidate receives a majority in the Electoral College during the said time , then the president-elect will be selected by a vote of the House of Representatives , with each state receiving a single vote . Similarly , if a vice presidential candidate does not receive a majority , then the vice president-elect will also be selected by a vote of the Senate
