Abstract

Our world today is ever changing and moving at a fast pace . As a result the society is subjected to intense pressure from ever increasing competition which is translated to social strain . Thereafter , this social stress and strain on the society results to the propensity and cultivation of healthy grounds for crime and criminal acts within individuals or /and group as unit of society

. Amidst these acts and scenes of crime , the outstanding question to be addressed by a criminologist before intervening into crime prevention and control is to understand the nature and cause of crime by getting down to the root of the crime

In this regard , there are some useful questions that can help a modern criminologist to get root and nature of the crime from a sociological perspective . These are : Why do people perform criminal acts ? Is it something in their genes ? Is it something in the hand of fate ? Or is it something that they learn ? These questions help a modern criminologist approach to understanding the trends of crime prevalence and occurrence in to better contribute towards crime combating . In this line of thought , this shall seek to theoretically explain crime occurrence and prevalence through use of Sociological theories of crime
