Q1 . Capital punishment in USA usually varies by the jurisdiction . It usually applies to only the aggravated murder and in rare times for contract killing and felony murder . Some jurisdictions have banned criminal justice while others have suspended it though others are trying to expand its whole applicability . Capital punishment has been a controversial issue in USA . Arguments on capital punishment are usually based on practical , moral and religious grounds . Advocates on dearth penalty do argue that

capital punishment deters crime and enhances the community as it makes sure that the convicted criminals never offend again . The opponents do argue that death penalty is not an effectual means to deter crime and it is barbaric . It cheapens human life and puts the government on similar questionable moral levels just like those criminals who are usually involved in murder cases . Though polls reveal that majority of USA respondents do support death penalties , it is however , unclear on whether most people are informed on the issue

The reason why capital punishment has received a tarnished record in USA is because despite the majority of Americans supporting the death penalty , it does not have a single death penalty and the supreme court considers it cruel , less popular , unfair and unusual (ACLU , 1997 Critics have railed against use of death penalty .
