General deterrence

General deterrence mainly focuses on crime prevention in a general manner . In this case the main aim is not to change the behavior of the offender who has been found guilty of a certain crime by a competent court of law such a person receives a form of punishment that is intended to deter the public and especially the deviant individuals from committing similar crimes in future . For deterrence to be effective the most common judgment

that is usually passed to an individual is death penalty . This form of penalty effectively instills fear among the public and more so to the deviant individuals who are likely to commit such crimes in future .
