Accurate and efficient information shared among different agencies can be highly relied upon to improve the criminal justice system . An integrated information system can be used to share critical information and thus help in the process of making critical decision at different points in the justice system . The main purpose of integrating the justice system is to improve the safety of the public in general and the security at the homesteads . It is also

important to note that such integration would end up improving the quality of justice in the state and in the end enables the efficient expenditure of resources

Information can be used to tie various systems of the criminal justice into an effective criminal justice system (Morton 2001 . Technology is important in integrating criminal justice information system as it easily allows the system to share information at critical points of decision making . Information such as photographs , fingerprints , DNA identification records , case records , court calendars electronic messages and documents (Morton 2001 , para 1 , can be shared in the criminal justice . Therefore with integration , information can be shared within a single agency such as prosecutor 's office or police department and it as well allows information to be shared among multiple agencies For instance , a court may notify a prison 's department of its calendars program showing when a prisoner is supposed to appear in court . On the other hand , the prisons department can use integrated information system to notify the parole officer about a prisoner being released on parole Information can also be shared among local , station and national agencies thus bringing integration

The criminal justice agencies can operate effectively when they have access to the right information at the right time . Technology is important in enabling the sharing of information to take place effectively . With the increased criminal cases and the complexity of the judicial system , the old computer system of the department or agency have for along time proven ineffective for sharing and exchanging data between them (Morton , 2001 . It is important that the practitioners of criminal justice have a system that would provide them with a fast and accurate exchange of information so as to be able to address the issues of crime effectively . According to Morton , Information , for example about prior arrests , convictions , parole , bail and so forth is crucial to making decisions about disposition options such as sentencing and supervision requirements (Para 2 . Therefore an information infrastructure that can enable the seamless and timely access to information is very critical in enabling the agencies in the justice areas to carry out statutory functions involving the criminal cases and offenders

The integration of criminal justice information system would result into having improvement in the quality of criminal justice data .
