EFFECT OF CRIMES IN CITIES The cities are an emblem of development and prosperity wealth and luxury , life and servitude but on the other hand , from the soil of these very mushrooming cities are also being heard day in and day out the hues and cries of people victimized and traumatized by the unscrupulous elements . They are hell bent in destroying the peace and shattering the very foundation on which the cities boast to stand for Any criminal act whether of very serious nature or mild , whether the Financial loss , drug trafficking

, exploitation of natural resources corruption and misappropriation of funds leaves behind a trail of destruction and woeful stories of victims never to be forgotten
A woman killed a friend after they argued over a new dress a man killed his neighbor when his son mistakenly used his soap . Two men pulled out their guns at each other and in cross fire killed a 13-year-old girl , a young girl of nine years abducted , sexually abused and then killed and murdered . These crimes have become a hallmark in the cities of America Roads and Lanes of the New York , Miami and Los Angeles are bearing the mark of the murders and assaults on such trivial matters . In 1990 , the crimes were related to battles over gang wars and drug turf but now there is sharp increase in homicides . With more weapons easily available , people are not loosing opportunity to trigger the guns at the slightest pretext . In Milwaukee , the cases of homicides increased from 88 in 2004 to 122 in 2005 , In Houston 113 out of 336 killings are of homicides , Philadelphia saw the rise even more , 380 homicides in 2005 out of them 208 were of only disputes , and it was just 13 percent in 1990 's when the crime was at its peak . In St . Louis , the number of homicides was 131 (Zernite Kate , NY Times , 2006
Cities are also witness to the Economic and Financial Crimes . These Crimes relate to misappropriation or embezzlement of funds . People who resort themselves in these activities are generally very smart and sophisticated , and have extensive connections with law enforcement officials . According to the available evidences , the costs of economic and financial crime , while excluding exact measurement in the short term , proves to be much severe for many societies seeking to achieve sustainable levels of development . Such practices undermine effective economic management , transparent practices and the rule of law . They also benefit only a few people in society , leaving the majority poorer and with fewer resources (Eleventh UN Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice , April 2005
