Data from the UCR will be interpreted , only focusing on crimes against property in New York , New York and Miami , Florida during 2007 . Property crime is a non-violent crime which concerns the criminal act of seizing properties . Property crimes have been subdivided under four categories burglary (entering estates and stealing properties by force , larceny (stealing properties from their owners , motor vehicle theft , and arson (the act of setting estates on fire (Morgan Morgan , 2008 ) The number of property crimes in New York sums up to 149 ,488 (FBI , 2008a and 21 ,183 in Miami (FBI , 2008b

The number of crimes committed against property is extremely higher in New York , with an amount that adds up to 149 ,488 . The staggering amount is almost six times magnified as compared to 21 ,183 cases reported in Miami . The data compared the figures obtained from 2006 and 2007 . In 2006 , the agencies was 153 ,436 . It is slightly higher than recorded data in 2007 but a decrease in the occurrence of crimes against property means that the state of New York , with the presence of law enforcement , was able to control environmental factors to sustain peace and in the area (FBI , 2008a

In the previous years , crimes against property in Miami were 20 ,288 as recorded by the FBI . However , during the next year , the crime rate for this particular type of offense increased for almost one thousand Property crimes have lessened after one year , and it will still continue to rise if the community , the state government , and law enforcement agencies do not intervene and take necessary precautions and measures (FBI , 2008b

Since 2002 , property crimes and violent crimes have been observed to decline in New York . An article written by Matthew Wald for the New York Times discussed this issue during that year . With this in mind , it may be assumed that the same reasons for the decline in crime rates during that year was adapted in the following years to steadily diminish the occurrence of crimes , particularly property crimes in the area . Reasons for such decline in property crimes were attributed to demographics , the ability of law enforcement to put crime offenders behind bars , the strong motivation to report crimes to law enforcement agencies by victims as well...
