Sermon Outline Sermon title : A call for humility from prison Text : Philippians 2 : 5-11 Introduction The place where the letter to the Philippians was written remains a controversy among many scholars . While it is popularly believed that the letter was written in Rome but some contends that the letter may have been written either in Ephesus or Corinth or Caesarea . But wherever the letter was written one thing is sure , Paul wrote it while he was in Prison . He was chained in a dungeon without any offense along with other

criminals who must have committed various criminal offenses , except of preaching the gospel of Christ . He was in a place where hope is less known , where joy is perhaps virtually unknown , and where encouragement is alien . He was locked in a place where hopelessness reigns , where anger and revenge may be common utterances , and where there is no light literally and figuratively . It was from this place that Paul wrote the epistle to the Philippians
Given the context of his imprisonment , it is very surprising that Paul had still such courage and strength to exhort his Philippians brethren to live a life of Christian humility .
