My job was to see to it that the stocks were arranged and in before the store opened and I had to assist the customers who inquired and bought a product that was assigned to me . At the end of the day , I had to inventory the products and make a report to the supervisor which products needed to be ed

Since the organization I worked for was highly structured and bureaucratic , the performance of employees was evaluated based on work output which was mostly objective criteria . The objective criteria were measured in terms of our work productivity on a weekly basis Productivity was measured by the number of customers we assisted and the number of sales we facilitated . Subjective criteria also formed a small part of the evaluation process , the ultimate criteria was efficiency (Borman Motowidlo , 1993 , and the actual criteria used to measure efficiency were accurateness of the inventory report , the speed at which the stocks were arranged and presented and the ratings I got from the customer feedback

2 . Were these criteria relevant in your opinion ? Why or why not ? How might they have been deficient ? How might they have been contaminated

The criteria were relevant because it directly was related to my actual job responsibilities . Since I was a store clerk and my primary job was to be able to assist and facilitate customer needs and purchases , it was understandable that my performance was evaluated under these terms However , the evaluation criteria were deficient because it did not take into account our customer service skills and sales talk which actually was the key factor that helped us become productive and efficient . The actual criteria like the speed with which we cleaned and arranged the products was contaminated by the fact that each employee was assigned different products and the size , shape and material of the product alone could contaminate the performance criteria

An alternative criterion that could be used by the organization was the quality of customer service rendered by the employees . It is a fact that our productivity when based on the number of sales and assisted customers are objective criteria , it relied heavily on quantity and not quality . It is also true that customers return and become loyal to the store if they enjoy their experience with the store and it can only be due to how positive their experience was . A key player in this experience is the store clerks and the way they handle their customers and give quality service to them . Besides , putting customer motivation aside , the customer would likely be influenced by the store clerk 's genuine assistance and sales...
