Reading the title of Derald Wing Sue and David Sue 's Counseling the Cultural Diverse Theory and Practice ' published in 2003 , makes its reader feel that they are reading a textbook , specifically required for graduate students , endeavoring in the field of counseling psychology Though , being published in the fourth edition somehow makes the

readers wonder how books of these kinds tend to last , and still survive the test of time , be edited and reprinted for several times , when it seems that they s are dull and uninteresting . Discerning how this book turns or changes from uninteresting ' to interesting , is definitely one joy great ride for a reader like me

Cultural diversity refers to the cultural differences which can be observed or experienced between people . It encompasses dress and traditions , methods of managing the society , organizations , language ideas of beliefs regarding morality as well as the methods of interaction with the environment . Considering the definition of culture being a set of unique intellectual , material , emotional and spiritual characteristics of the society or a social group , then , cultural diversity can be further assumed or accepted as the respect fundamental freedom . Included in this freedom is the freedom of having ones desired religion , conscience and though , as well as the freedom of expressing one 's opinion and participation in everyday , cultural life

Chapter 1 of the book deals with the Multicultural Journey to Cultural Competence ' then Derald Wing Sue and David Sue 's book discusses the issue of the superordinate nature (Chapter 2 regarding sociopolitical considerations of trust and mistrust , as well as multicultural counseling and therapy in rather , slow pace . The start definitely seems slow , however , the previous statements quoted above is able to instill certain repercussions in the mind of its readers making them reminisce through life experiences . Somehow , the typical geek-bully scenario at school comes to my mind , categorizing the geeks as minority groups (oppressed ) and the bullies as the majority group (oppressors . In addition to this , sophisticated ' individuals feel that they are superior or dominant over ethnic ' groups , where the former are the oppressors and the later are the oppressed . Other speculations with regards to the biases and unfair treatment in society somehow makes the readers of this book think more and consider reading further
