Carol Rogers was an American psychologist and one among the founders of the Humanist approach to psychology . He was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize for his work on national intergroup conflict in South Africa and Northern Ireland . His theories on Self-concept , development of personality , the good life and the fully functioning person are popular even among contemporary psychologists . They have found wide applications in counselling

This field of perception is reality for the individual . A portion of the perception field generally becomes differentiated as self . During interaction with the environment and with others , the structure of the self is formed as an organised , fluid but consistent pattern of perceptions . The more these perceptions are the more rigidly the self structure is organized to maintain itself .
