Types of Control

There are three types of control mechanism in managerial activities They are the market control , bureaucratic control and the clan control The Market Control relies more on market mechanism to establish standard used in control system . The Bureaucratic Control on the other hand emphasizing on organizational authority and administrative rules . In the Clan Control , employee behaviors are regulated by shared values norms beliefs and other aspects of organizational culture p

The Market Control mechanism is the most challenging type of control mechanism for managers . This is true because top managers use real outcomes and real market effects from managerial decisions to evaluate a manager 's performance . New and un-experienced managers would generally find this type of control mechanism to be intimidating and even frustrating . However , the mechanism encourages new managers to take account of the real market factors rather than theoretical perspective of a tutor . If this mechanism of control is applied on a training program , in would gave birth to strong and reality-oriented managers

The second and the third control mechanism have a portion of their decisions influenced by inward looking perspectives rather than outward In the Bureaucratic Control mechanism , top managers and their administration team has a powerful influence in the lives of new managers . Based on individual and small group experiences , top managers and their administration team decide which are good and which are bad for business . The Clan Control on the other hand , relies on collective processes . It is collective experiences of all members of the organization -that has evolved them into a corporate culture- that shaped the standards operational guidelines for new managers

Companies generally incurred all three types of control mechanism within their standard setting system . The clan control mechanism is required to determine a company 's objectives and constraints , the bureaucratic control is necessary to generate common goals and perspective within each operation , and the market control is needed to incur the sense of independence and creativity within a manager 's personality . However , if a situation allowed for only one control mechanism to be performed , I would choose the market control mechanism because it is the one that generates the ability to survive in most circumstances .
