The Republic of Chile is located in South America along the coastal line of the Atlantic Ocean . It stretches over 4300 km along the coast of South America and has a width of approximately 240km wide thus making the country very slender . This has always produced a fascinating moments to visitors who come to tour this country . Chile has three main ethnic groups namely the Castizo who form the majority of the population and is followed closely by the Whites

and lastly by the Amerindians According to the census of 2002 , the population was estimated at 15 million people and it is estimated to be about 16 .6 million by June 2009 . The population occupies an area of 756 ,950 km2 with water occupying approximately 1 .072 . The capital city of Chile is Santiago and Spanish is the official language . This research will look into the contemporary Republic of Chile . In ascertaining its present state , the will discuss Chile 's historical perspective , the current state of its economy , the political settings , the military and the cultural settings .
