A country 's independence can be measured internally and within the bounds of their own actions . Being independent is not just having the territory but also having the rights and obligations through the designation of power or authority . This independence or freedom must be protected in any way possible by the government

The United States of America in particular is a sovereign country that truly believes that freedom should be maintained in a country or any other similar institutions to have a smooth and sustainable relationship among the citizens

. America possesses strength and power unparalleled from other countries . Though America had these characteristics , threat to national security that would affect the citizens and the whole country should still be accounted . United States of America has mastered its fight and protection of their freedom through many ways : from government agencies to the latest information planning and detecting devices . They have set goals through developing a path that will guide their officials , citizens and other allied forces . Strengthening alliance against global terrorism , preventing enemies from threatening the citizens , their allies and friends and introducing the free trade and free markets into international criteria are among the ways to reach their goals . These ways are considerably vital to the protection of the sovereignty of a country . In fighting terrorism or any threat to the safety and freedom of the citizens , information enhancement within and outside the country should be take into considerations

The National Security Agency (NSA ) and the National Security Council (NSC ) are among the government agencies that focus on the national security of the country . They varied on the purpose given and to the duties they should perform . NSA is a cryptologic organization in the United States involve in protecting US information system and generating foreign signals for intelligence information . NSC on the other hand , is the general forum used by the president for the issues about national security and foreign policy . This involves the senior national security adviser and the cabinet officials . Their functions vary in accordance with the president . But officially they have the obligation to advise the president regarding national security issues

Federal Bureau of Investigation is another agency of the United States that is involve in protecting the national security of the country Their main mission is to protect and defend the United States from foreign and terrorist intelligence threats , to enforce criminal laws of the United States and to provide criminal justice service to the state citizens , international agencies and allies

In deciding whether information should be publicized or kept in secret all the agencies mentioned above should be involve . Information regarding the national security especially intelligence information go through a classification scheme . Starting from unclassified to top secret information , these should be decided by certain agencies . Almost all information go through the FBI , then they categorized them according to the scheme .
