A heated debate has been swirling in the United States Senate regarding the reauthorization of the Children 's Health Insurance Plan (SCHIP . The insurance program is intended to provide healthcare to children from low income families . Several Senators , John McCain from Arizona , do not support Senate Bill 275 because they claim it fails to meet the program 's goal by including families with relatively high incomes (Sunnucks , 2009 . I disagree with the positions of Senators John McCain and Jon Kyl . I believe every child in the United States of America should experience the opportunity to grow up happy and healthy . The increase of tobacco taxes may also benefit the overall health of our nation . Despite the dangers of smoking , revenue from tobacco taxes is likely to be a dependable and steady flow of funding for this program . I disagree with McCain 's belief that the need to maintain a funding source for such an expensive program would deter smoking prevention and cessation efforts These goals seem mutually exclusive and would most certainly be overseen by completely different entities . The harsh reality exists that thousands of Americans will continue to smoke for years to come...
