Families are an integral part of the society especially given the fact that human beings are social beings who need love , care and recognition The quality of relationship a family is involved in has been found to have an impact on the unity of the society (Folberg , Jay , Ann , Milne Salem , 2004 . For instance , poor families have been found to sire more children hence contributing greatly to population growth and the sprawl of semi permanent houses in

urban centers . This phenomenon is more pronounced in the urban setting where , the quality of life a family leads largely depends on income levels of the household members

Family relationships are complex and understanding of expectations both male and females have of each other is a daunting task . The fact that relationships are both dynamic and situational further complicates the nature of relationships . This analyzes the social , environmental and cultural factors in an effort to understand how each of the above mentioned factors influence life I the society . To ensure that , families continue to play their role in the society , there is a need for proper conflict resolution strategies to solve challenges which emerge and threaten the very existence of the family as an institution

The family has been said to be the smallest unit of government without which there would be no society and therefore no government Functionality of the government is very necessary unless the family unit functions in unity and harmony within itself conflicts are bound to keep on arising in the society . This discusses the importance of family and child advocacy law with an aim of demonstrating the relevance of family and child law advocacy law

However , it is not possible to achieve such unity , harmony and organization without proper law structures and system to protect the rights of the family to exist as well as that of the child to belong to the family and be treated in accordance with the law . Despite the existence of laws governing the family and children , problems and challenges continue to face today 's families . With the divorce and separation rates soaring up disproportionately , more and more people opting not to marry , the family as a core part of the society is constantly under threat . Apart from divorce and separation cases domestic violence are also another major problem affecting today 's family with the issue becoming so serious that family advocates have demanded the enactment of strict legislation to deter and prevent family unity (Jamieson , 1998

The fact that very much legislation have been passed by many states on the issue of family and yet no tangible changes have been noted in terms of reduction of domestic violence , divorce or separation is seen as a clear sign that new measures need to be put in place .
