Competencey and Effectiveness
Applying for a job My primary goal for interaction in a job interview is to make a good impression that I am qualified for the position I am applying for . To do this , I will show that I know many things about the company and I am applying because I want to render my service , skills , and knowledge that would contribute to the company 's success . Effectiveness and appropriateness are both important because they are both prerequisites of competence . The more appropriate and effective an interactant is the more competent he or

she is likely to be perceived (Canary Spitzberg , 1989 ,
. 631 . Appropriateness involves adherence to social rules or norms while effectiveness occurs when goals set for the communication interaction are fulfilled (Westmyer , DiCioccio Rubin 1998 .
. 30 . Therefore , I would practice code of ethics to ensure the right actions and words when interacting with HR managers . Competence refers to a sense that one has sufficient skills , knowledge , and experience to achieve a certain task (Norman , 2000 ,
. 23 . Most companies today prefer employees who are highly competent because it is one aspect that makes a person better than the other . If a person is competent or can perform better and more efficiently , he or she is more likely to produce positive outcome in performing his or her functions and responsibilities (Chambers , et al , 2000 . During interviews , I would make a good impression by applying effective communication strategies and practicing interpersonal skills I have learned from training and reading . I would try my best to respond to questions or conversations correctly , honestly , appropriately , and effectively . I would avoid pretensions or any signs of overconfidence or assertiveness even if I am confident about my ideas or thoughts . After the interview I would make a follow call (if it is allowed ) to let them know that I am very interested and determined to have a job . I would consider other prospects to have another chance for an interview in case I would not be hired immediately because I am not perfect but I can do something to improve my personal and professional qualities as I learn from my experiences
