To the rest of the world , Islam is just a religion but among its faithful , the Muslims , Islam is more than just a religion where one simply worships , it is a way of life whose influence permeates every aspect of humanity . Islamism is an ideology based on the Islamic faith Under this context , Islam is more than a religion but also a political system . It urges every Muslim to go back to

the fundamentals of their religion which would serve as the basis of political unity among Muslims

Islamism is a rather broad concept with many definitions that cover a broad range of degrees from liberal which entails tolerance of anything western for the sake of modernization to the extreme which is the opposite which is highly militant , opposing anything western to the extent of using violence to make their point . More often than not Islamism is associated with the latter group and its adherents are called Islamists . This group in particular , as stated before is anti-democratic and seeks to establish a government grounded on the teachings of the Quran , their sacred scripture . They seek to use Islam a political movement to mobilize people to their cause to gain political authority through any means necessary , legitimate , through elections , or otherwise through revolution and once in power , enforce their agenda based on Islamic teachings upon society
