Governments all over the world run differently depending on set customs /traditions or written constitutions . Countries such as Israel and United Kingdom do not run by a formal written constitution , but do so by set customs and traditions weighing over decades of years Nevertheless , countries such as the United States are run by a formal written constitution describing the different branches of government and their restricted powers . In today 's view of democracies , governments are categorize into having presidential systems , parliamentary systems or are a combination of both . The following paragraphs will

present different styles of governments from the United States , United Kingdom and Israel and how their structure incorporates the mechanics of democracy

The United States is a presidential model in which the head of the state and head of the government is the President . The executive power is vested in the president and his appointed cabinet with the approval of the bicameral congress . The congress is composed of the Senate and the House of Representatives . Both the Senate and the House are elected by the population to fix terms . The President , however , is elected through the Electoral College for a maximum of two terms

In the case of the United Kingdom , the government is run through seven hundred years of tradition and norms . There is no written constitution and the executive power is vest in the monarch , but it is actually executed by a committee of ministers chosen by the House of Commons and the House of Lords . In a parliamentary system , the prime minister is the head of the government and is the leader of the largest ruling party The Parliament represents the entire country and is elected every five years , although the prime minister may ask the monarch to dissolve it at any time . The House of Commons is elected through the population however , the House of Lords is appointed for life through the monarch This system allows for multiple parties to participate in the political process (United , 2006

Last but not least , the government of Israel is the combination of both the presidential and parliamentary systems . There is no constitution and is governed by the basic laws of the unicameral Knesset and the Declaration of Establishment of 1948 . The President is the Head of the State and is mainly for ceremonial purposes the Knesset elects him for a five-year term . The executive power is vested in the prime minister who is the head of the government with his cabinet upon the approval of the Knesset .
