Public police are individuals with trained legal abilities employed by the government to preserve peace and maintain law and Private policing is mainly concerned with the private sector by preventing private crimes through protection of personal and corporate interests . Public policing is a department which mainly reacts to crimes

through tips from the public or through police investigations . Private policing is mainly focused on crime prevention through intense surveillance techniques . Both public and private policing sectors perform similar roles but employ different practices
Comparison between roles of public and private policing
Both public and private policing sectors are required to interact and cooperate with each other to perform their tasks effectively . They are both focused on protecting the society by preventing crime and effectively dealing with criminals . A tradition image has been created whereby a uniformed private or public police can create a sense of security and command respect from the society just by being seen around Although public policing main role is to preserve peace , maintain law and and prevent crime in the public , while the private policing role is to maintain law and at private events and to protect personal individuals , in the long run their roles are similar . Both public and private policing sectors are governed by a similar set of rules and regulations which they must use to implement their actions in enforcing law and (Button , M . 2002 . These sectors are governed by ethics which they must comply with and judged on if they break regulations which govern them . Public and private policing departments in America have begun forming partnerships in performing their duties Private agencies are hiring public police officers who are intensely trained to perform certain tasks . Both private and public police look and behave in similar manners since they both wear uniforms . New rules and regulations have emerged recently which provide that both public and private police officers should be licensed . This type of licensing requires that both officers are screened for any criminal records thoroughly . A license is issued to both public and private officers on completing a certain course of training which must be approved . Due to an increase in criminal activities , private security companies are now taking on the responsibility of dealing with crimes . This is an advantage to private security because by working with public policing they are able to improve their efficiency . Public policing and private policing sectors are incorporating their agencies so as to perform intense investigations . This is seen mostly in big cases where the FBI collaborates with private agencies to conduct investigations . Public policing sectors are also hiring private securities to perform certain undercover roles since it is much cheaper to use unsworn agents in such roles .
