Communications and teamwork

Motivation and Communication

The ability to motivate employees is the epicenter of workplace productivity . A stagnant workplace will creates a business that will never live up to its productivity potential and put great limits on its ability to become successful in the marketplace . When it comes to the definition of the word motivation , the most common definitions of the word essentially revolve around management 's ability to get employees to perform in a manner that achieves the goals of the company However , there also needs to be a definition provided as to

what constitutes PROPER motivation , as there must be an absolute clear understanding of what proper motivation is and what proper motivation is not

Proper motivation is most categorically not creating an environment that is dictatorial . That is , creating a workplace where employers are forced (not motivated ) to perform a certain way under threat of penalty will never create an effective workplace . While such draconian tactics might yield certain short term workplace productivity spikes , but such productivity will always have limitations because the employees are not truly integrated into the workplace , but rather reduced to automatons performing tasks under threat of retaliation

So what then is proper motivation ? There is no single , unilateral formula that will create proper motivation , but all forms of workplace motivation generally involve the following : providing the potential for advancement , workplace fairness , a non-hostile work environment listening to employee concerns and rewarding top producers

Motivation And Communication Pg 2

In to keep employees motivated there needs to be a comprehensive internal communications system set in place so as to properly disseminate vital information . If the communication channels within a company are weak , then it becomes difficult to the company to function as the employees may not understand company goals or policies . This will undermine any motivational potential

A communication system must be installed so that employees stay informed Without a clear sense of understanding what company needs are , the employees will never be able to become motivated because they will have no idea what to be motivated for . Business communications information systems can include anything from internal e-mail systems to something as basic as a bulletin board

Information systems need not be elaborate . In today 's high tech world people seem to discount the importance of solid written communication Whether it be writing a simple memo or , for larger companies , something as expansive as an internal communications news , any written item that heralds the important information regarding what the company needs and how specifically the employees will be utilized to meet such needs and , more importantly , what type rewards and benefits the employees will receive if such goals are met

The heart of all motivation is providing a reward system for employees who help meet company goals . In to facilitate this motivation , a proper internal communication system must be instituted
