A complex and effective system of communication is what had separated us from the other living forms of this planet Basically , there are three generally accepted major forms of communication . They are namely verbal , nonverbal , and written communication . However these forms of communication branches out to more sub-forms of communication Verbal communication

is regarded to be the most basic out of all the forms of communication . It is performed when humans uses the mouth , or more specifically the organs for articulation , to utter words . It is generally accepted that verbal communication is natural to humans . The very proof for this argument is the manner how children learn to speak almost effortlessly when their organs for articulation are already developed . Practically all known human languages are done through verbal communication
On the other hand , nonverbal communication is simply the exact opposite of verbal communication . Messages that are sent through nonverbal communication are of course without the presence of words
Nonverbal communication could be performed by gestures like body language and posture , facial expressions , and eye contact . Objects could also be used for nonverbal communication . They way we present ourselves could be considered nonverbal communication like through clothes and hairstyles . Signs and symbols are also considered nonverbal communication . Sign language is probably the most commonly known sub-form of nonverbal communication
Verbal communication could also contain some elements of nonverbal communication . This intersection between the two is called paralanguage ' Some elements of paralanguage are the quality of voice , emotion , manner of speaking , rhythm , rate of speaking , stress and intonation
Written communication is basically , as the term suggests , the representation of language through a system of writing . As opposed to the previous forms of communication , written communication cannot be learned effortlessly . We can consider written communication as an offshoot of human development in terms of technology . Written communication could only by done when writing materials are at hand like pen , or computers
Unlike verbal and non-verbal communication , written communication is not natural to us . Written communication is often learned through going to school or being taught at home . Just like the other forms of communication , written communication could also be used alongside the other forms of communication . Perhaps the best example of this would be theater plays . The text or the script must be written down first . This is the primary task of the writer , who specializes in the field of written communication . Then the script would be passed to the actor who will perform the play , they are the one 's who are specialized in oral or spoken communication
