There are several reasons for communication issues that can inhibit interracial friendships . One such issue is the prevalence of stereotypes within society . People often have preconceived ideas of other races before meeting them and are not able to see the person as they are rather than the race they represent . This feeds into mistrust as people of different races often have trust issues with each because they are from different societies and worlds . A critical reason is the cultural differences , people are raised with different ideals societies , and

For interracial romantic relationships , there are all the same complications of friendship as well as additional barriers . A frequent area of communication difficulties arise out of religion . People who were raised in different cultures are often people of different religions and learning to communicate and accept these differences is often a complicated process that takes patience and work by the people involved in the romance . A second reason is due to family acceptance It is often a challenge to obtain the approval of family members when dating a person of a different culture and can create strife between the couple . The need to clearly communicate with each other and family members is a necessity to prevent this from dividing the couple (Blewett , 1995 , 68
