Untitled Common Academic Expectations in an American University Thesis Statement : The American values and culture is a significant factor that affects the expectations of American students particularly in Seattle . It is very important to identify the mission and vision in all institution such as universities in to know its objective . By means of this , one will also be able to attract prospect students to enroll at that University . According to American Cultural Patterns by Edward C . Stewart and Milton J . Bennett One 's decisions are motivated largely by the pursuit of self-interest in career goals and other areas of personal achievement (134 . Meaning that a person has his own insight of what he wants to do or to become . This will be portrayed in choosing the university he wants to belong , and the course he want to take . His will to study the profession he wants will motivate him to learn more than the university will teach him . Eventually he will graduate from the university as a knowledgeable and fully grown person and become the person he always wanted . As for Seattle University , their goal is to educate the whole person , to professional formation , and to empowering leaders for a just and humane world . Their vision is to be a premier and independent Northwest university in terms of quality education , and service provided to the society with the Jesuit Catholic approach . Students of the Seattle University are also trained to excel academically by effective learning through a good environment . The University makes sure that proper values and the ideals are met such as enrichment of faith , promotion of fair justice and training responsible leaders . In to check whether their goals have been met , an annual conversation on the Seattle University mission with faculty and staff is conducted . This shows that as part of American culture , we value achievements . Seattle University vision statement is measurable achievement .
