The United States was a nation that was founded on the principles of trust and unity . This made the country during the colonial period to maintain the national identity as precedence over the rest of the likely identities . This identity was front and foremost to many Americans during this era which prevented civil unrest from erupting that would have pose danger to most people 's security during the era of American colonialism
