Our parents often tell us that we should study hard and perform well academically in high school so we could go to college and land a good job . A good paying job means more money and the more money we have , the more successful we are . We often wonder whether it is necessary to get a college diploma . Successful people like Martha Stewart , Oprah Winfrey and Donald Trump often believe in the importance of college education People in politics and those who are occupying sensitive positions in the government often have

a solid education . Yet , there are also self-taught and college dropouts like Ellen DeGeneres , Bill Gates and Michael Dell who never had any college diploma but end up becoming successful and wealthy

Is getting a post secondary education a guarantee for success ? For a lot of people , having a college degree is important . Some companies will not open their doors to job applicants who do not have any credentials or s to prove that they are qualified for certain positions . We are often made to believe that intelligence and qualifications are shown in the degrees that we have earned and the knowledge that we have gained . One may not be considered as a good candidate for promotion when one does not have a college or post graduate education . When we read about the success of people who went to college , we tend to believe that it pays to have a college diploma When we hear about high school and college drop-outs who become millionaires , we begin to wonder if college is necessary . We are not fully aware about how many graduates succeed in their chosen profession and how many succeed in spite of not having a degree . There seems to be so many roads to success . Now our thoughts are divided . Do we need a college degree or is a high school diploma enough for us to succeed Should one be a book smart or a street smart person ? These are questions that we need to answer

They are all successful in their own fields wealthy and they never have the benefit of graduating college . What they lack in academic credentials , they make up for in determination guts and strong business sense . The lack of a college diploma is not always associated with success . While education is important , success has nothing to do with the framed on the wall . College degree can also be less relevant to success if one is self employed and the boss of his own company . If one has an entrepreneurial spirit , the degree is just a backup . However , not every non-college degree holders can end up becoming entrepreneurs . Many may need to hunt for jobs .
