I found myself lying on my bed contemplating on my future . I am struggling to create a mental picture of me in this new stage of my life and education . The past years have been fine but I cannot also deny the fact that there were also rough times that came . Those rough times however polished me and made more aware of life 's realities and meaning It also made more appreciative of all the things that I have . Foremost it also made me recognized the

woman who has greatly influenced the person that I am today and will become in the future . This woman has consistently supported and inspired me in my struggles . She is the person who has showed to me and my two older sisters how to be triumphant amidst adversities . She is our mother Gladys

My mother is a single parent but she was able to raise us alone . In her desire to give us good future , she bravely faced the challenges in her life . She did not allow her broken marriage to bring us more devastation , however , she made it as a starting point to build a better life for us . She has consistently shown strong determination and perseverance in all her undertakings . These were exemplified in her success to learn English language on her own and have a nursing certificate which eventually gave her good paying job enough to sustain our needs and support our family . Her determination and perseverance brought our family where it is today . She has indeed successfully transformed our once gloomy situation to one that radiates life

My mother 's way of dealing with challenges taught me a lot of lessons in life . I learned to view challenges positively . I then learned that a challenge can be a source of opportunities for creative change from which people emerge stronger than they were . Challenges are just normal and no one is free from it , they are realities in our daily lives . Some of these challenges are integral part of the progression in life . To beat the challenges that come in our way , we need to keep our actions and expectations realistic . Sometimes opportunities cannot be seen because of the person 's tendency to be short-sighted . Thus , we need to consistently reassure ourselves that these challenges bring opportunities for us to discover . It is a fact that there are no quick and fast solutions to challenges and obstacles , that is why we need to be determined , focus , and consistent with our goals . Indeed , I learned from the experience of my mother that every life is shaped , to a large extent , by what we do with the challenges we experience
