Cold War Ideology and Policies
Cold War : The Era and its Offset The end of World War II brought about the emergence of two superpowers - the United States and the Soviet Union . Alongside the ascendancy of these two countries to power , another era of hostility occurred . Cold War emerged - as it is the most important by-product of World War II US and the Soviet Union both had become a military superpower . During this era , a series of indirect confrontation between the two countries as well as among their allies had taken place . The alliances that were

formed during this era were between the US lead NATO alliance and Soviet 's Warsaw Pact . Both alliances were ruled by two contrasting ideologies that brought US to form a policy of containment against the Soviet . While the US alliance was guided by democratic liberalism , based upon social systems that valued the role of individuals and operated on an economic system based on capitalism , the Soviet Union on the other hand embraced Marxism . Capitalism versus Communism ' is a prevalent them during this era . This brought the US to promote the containment policy against the Soviet to prevent this ideology from spreading across the developing states of the era (Leffler 1994
At the offset of this war , numerous confrontations , though indirect between the two states were prevalent . At the downfall of the Soviet Union and the dissolution of their ally , the US had continued to become an economic and political superpower in the world . Since the Cold War and until the present day , US influence is still at its peak . The US has continued to dominate not only the global economy , but as well as the political arena . A proof of this is the continuing popularity of the capitalist , the existence of US sponsored alliances like UN , NATO IMF-WB to name a few , and the powerful grasp of the American government amongst weaker and new industrializing nations
