COGNITIVE LOAD THEORY
Cognitive load theory refers to the load which is placed on the working memory during instruction giving process . Cognitive load theory therefore provides guidelines which assist in information representation , in such a way that the learning activities and intellectual performance are optimized . The latest research has noticed similarities between the new computers and human thinking , since both can manipulate numbers and several non numeric symbols . Secondly , the research has also disclosed that the cognition and representation processes exist in an organized system with specific constraints and properties (Chandler Sweller , 1991 . The aim of this research was to define cognitive architecture which refers to structure of information processing system . Research has also indicated that cognitive development occurs through self modification of information processing system
